Abstract

About Luis E. Valcárcel there is abundant literature, both from his own pen as authors belonging to different specialties. This research aims to address the issue of the particular circumstances that allowed him to enter the world of anthropology, when the country had scant knowledge of this new social science, founded by E. Tylor in England and Lewis Morgan in the United States. Valcárcel embraced indigenous thought, leading to a whole generation of Cuzco intellectuals; He created anthropological research institutes and vocational training in Lima, and much of his life was dedicated to the study of history, anthropology and pre-Hispanic archeology
