Ethics, identity and culture. In defense of cinema as a cultural identity of Mexico

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to reflect on the importance of mexican cinema as a cultural good that by its massive impact in a communicational way is relevant for the configuration of identities of any contemporary society. The review focuses on the debate generated inside a part of the film guild people because of the new legislation imposed for cultural industries in the context of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which was uncertain for the welfare of national cinema with the liberation and deregulation of international trade. The investigation delves into the discussion held on the role it should play the State and its ethical commitment to the film industry as a cultural and commercial good. It also explores into the relevance that still has the State in the dynamics of the national cinema, despite the economic policies that came with the Trade.
