Abstract

Mexican cinema is experiencing a good time, a new generation of filmmakers are producing films that are bringing audiences back to cinemas, audiences that also undergo a generational change, so that we can say that Mexican cinema lives a new Golden Age in the 21st century. The purpose of this work is to present a look at the reception that recent Mexican films have their audiences, young people and older adults, explore the emotions they provoke and the moods they present before and after being exposed to these films, as well as whether they experienced identification with the characters. The methodology was mixed, using the survey and focus group as research techniques, the films that were used as an example were We the Nobles and Returns are not accepted. The results show that older adults were more thoughtful in expressing the emotions that the films aroused in them, showed greater empathy for the situations that the characters lived and managed to identify more with them, however, among the young people, although they expressed more contradictory responses to each other, in some of them we managed to discover that these two Mexican films aroused in some of them intense emotions , even surprising as nostalgia, which would have been expected more among older adults.
