Abstract

The book People of the land of war. The lipes in the Andean traditions and the colonial imaginary of the Chilean anthropologist and ethnohistorian José Luis Martínez, addresses both a case study and a theoretical-methodological problematic. Being a prominent speaker of Andean studies, the author identifies a gap in the specialized literature, a gap that leads him to generate a methodological proposal that, in turn, creates an epistemological break in the investigations of this cultural area.
In this sense, Martínez offers a controversial monograph that remembers the base of the ethnohistorical studies on the Andes until reaching its foundations. It is a work that is far from closing a controversy about the way in which ethnohistory is made, especially in the field of the treatment of sources.
