The Other’s presence in everyday life

Abstract

This article aims to reflectively discuss the other every day, a figure of otherness that can help us understand the social dynamics. First, it is argued that the other in everyday life becomes the constant and inescapable tension generated by the differences between people. This tension is a creative principle, whereas, when trying to resolve it, the subjects set the tone of social relations and values and norms that support them. Also, the notion of daily otherness will be used to provide a different way to think about the classic category of otherness in Anthropology, which will consider otherness from its ordinary reality, where, besides a scientific category, is a permanent problem.
