Abstract

Socio-environmental vulnerability to vector-borne Chagas’ disease in Yucatan, MexicoThe paper discusses aspects at locally level and structural determinants that create vulnerability for Chagas disease in Yucatan from two transmission scenarios: the rural landscape and rural-urban dynamics. In addition to the eco-biological conditions, environmental anthropogenic transformations and socioeconomic processes of the last half of the twentieth century, have shaped the ways in which the Yucatecan people interact with their living spaces and work, and ultimately, affected on their exposure to triatomine insects that transmit the pathogen of the disease.
